Christchurch Girls’ High School | Te Kura o Hine Waiora is seeking an experienced and passionate Director of Boarding to lead our prestigious boarding house, Acland House. This leadership role, positioned at Assistant Principal level, offers the opportunity to shape an exceptional boarding and educational experience for young women within a highly regarded school community, whilst maintaining the opportunity to teach for suitable candidates.
The Director of Boarding provides strategic, pastoral and operational leadership of the boarding environment, ensuring the wellbeing, safety and development of both boarders and boarding staff. Working closely with the Principal, Senior Leadership Team and Board, you will ensure strong integration between boarding life and the wider school, aligned with our vision of empowering and inspiring ākonga to flourish.
This dynamic, people-centred role includes leadership of a committed boarding team, active involvement with ākonga and their welfare, strong engagement with whānau, oversight of boarding activities and traditions, and responsibility for key operational areas including staffing, finance, property, health and safety, and compliance.

Role Description
We are taking expressions of interest for those would like to start their Boarding career. This is a part time, on-site Boarding House Tutor role based in Canterbury, New Zealand. The Boarding House Tutor will assist in the day-to-day care and supervision of boarding students, ensuring their safety and well-being. Epsom House is Hiring Residential Supervisors (Term Time Only)

Epsom House, the boarding hostel attached to Epsom Girls Grammar School is seeking dedicated Residential Supervisors to oversee the wellbeing and safety of our students before and after school. Epsom House accommodates up to 150 girls aged 13 to 18, seven days a week during school terms.
Residential Supervisor Hours:
Between 6.30am and 10.30pm, minimum of 12 hours per week (term time only, predominantly before and after school hours), with additional shifts available occasionally.
Role overview
Our Residential Supervisors are a visible, steady presence in the House, offering calm leadership and warm pastoral care. You will oversee daily routines and transitions, helping students to start and finish their days. Your role will include listening attentively to students, noticing small changes in wellbeing, and responding with compassion and clear judgement. The position involves guiding social interactions, encouraging independence, and resilience. You will uphold House routines while remaining flexible to individual needs. Good record keeping and clear communication are essential. The focus is on nurturing a safe environment where students feel known, respected, and supported.
Key responsibilities
· Actively supervise students during assigned shifts to ensure safety and wellbeing.
· Support morning and evening routines and help students be punctual for planned activities.
· Monitor and assist students who are sick and follow medication and health procedures.
· Maintain daily duties and ensure communal areas meet hygiene and safety standards.
· Observe and report behaviour concerns and escalate according to House policy and processes.
· Keep accurate, timely records
We are looking for someone who:
· Has experience in residential care, youth support, or a similar role (preferred but not essential)
· Demonstrates calmness, responsibility, and solutions-focused thinking under pressure
· Possesses strong communication and interpersonal skills
· Respects cultural diversity and demonstrates cultural sensitivity, including knowledge of the Treaty of Waitangi

Napier Girls’ High School is located in Ahuriri Napier, and provides education for students in Years 9-13. The School is one of the oldest in New Zealand for girls. The School Hostel, Hewett House, with 175 boarders, is part of the main campus.

Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in providing a friendly, caring and safe environment for students.
- Oversee Student Prep, ensuring that all processes are being followed and that all documentation is completed.

- Ensure the safety of all boarders by following lock up routines and liaising with the Hostel Manager.
- Coordinate and provide transportation to co-curricular activities, appointments and other excursions working collaboratively with the administrative assistant and other Evening/Prep Supervisor.
- Liaise closely with the Hostel Manager regarding student welfare, behavioural issues, health and personal concerns.
- Ensure consequences are in place should girls’ behaviour require attention. Refer issues to Hostel Manager when required.
- Care for the physical health of the boarders when they are experiencing illness.
- Maintain good communication with parents when they are visiting or phoning the hostel, and keep them well informed about their daughter’s health, especially when she is ill or experiencing difficulties.
- Communicate with and respond to staff, parents and guardians in an appropriate and professional manner.
- Keep detailed records of communications with students and parents when required and ensure accurate file notes are maintained concerning student behaviour.
- Ensure the well-being and safety of Hewett House students through effective sign in/out system and leave procedures.
- Ensure a high standard of presentation and tidiness in the Hostel.
- Model appropriate professional behaviour.
- Complete additional duties as required by the Hostel Manager and the Principal.
Key tasks:
- Coordinate travel requests for the Hostel van on specified days.
- Drive the Hostel van as scheduled between 3:30pm and 8:30pm on specified days.
- Ensure the Hostel van is fuelled and tidy at the end of shifts (week), referring any issues to the Property Manager.
- Provide appropriate care to the girls who are sick, administer medication and communicate with parents when required regarding healthcare.
- Provide supervision in the dining room at dinner/supper time and check all rooms to ensure all girls are at dinner and that any late/absent students are followed up.
- Liaise with kitchen staff regarding saved dinners and dinner leave.
- Respond to student requests regarding leave, health, housekeeping or any issues, ensuring that all appropriate permissions and documentation are followed.
- Organise taxis for students when required.
- Coordinate bed time routines, including collecting phones and devices and ensuring girls are ready for lights out.
- Ensure each girl is in her own bed and is quiet prior to turning lights out.
- Maintain accurate student records when required (update Orah as required).
- Ensure that all appointments, accidents and disciplinary matters are recorded.
- Supervise Hostel socials and excursions beyond Hewett House when required.
- Attend parent meetings and social gatherings that support the Hostel community and our family environment.
- Assist with end of term pack up, clean up and routines around hostel closure, including final lock up as required.
- Assist with students’ laundry.
- Ensure gates (including Mathews) and doors are secure and locked before 7pm daily
Hours of Work and Remuneration
Hours of work: Monday to Thursday 3:30pm to 10:30pm and Sunday 6:30pm to 10:00pm.
31.5 hours per week, term time only
Pay Rate: $31.20 per hour inclusive of all allowances
